How Do Outdoor Recycling Bins Impact Community Recycling Efforts?

Envyrozone has direct experience and experience in utilizing our unique designs in outdoor recycling bins to support a dramatic improvement in recycling efforts. We partnered with the City of Toronto to create ergonomic, compact, and easy-to-use recycling bins that are placed throughout the city.

What Works

One of the challenges for most cities and communities is getting the public to continue to recycle when they are not at home. Using an immediately identifiable style and design of recycling bins throughout the community makes it easy to promote the program and share information with the public about the recycling efforts.

Our outdoor recycling bins have different sized openings, ensuring that smaller recyclables are not mixed with larger items of trash. At the same time, the use of the same style and look of each bin boosted the capture rate from 20% before our bins were installed to 88% in the first year. This helped reduce litter in the city while increasing the public response to recycling.

Added Revenue

In addition to the significant increase in capture rates across fiber, paper, PET, and aluminum, the recycling program provided the City of Toronto with revenue. With our unique recycling bin design, workers can easily empty and clean bins in just minutes, and with materials already sorted, this is a continued revenue stream.

Finally, we turned the bins into advertising opportunities for businesses. Both front and full wrap advertising options are available, adding yet another option for the city to have the recycling bins pay for themselves while also increasing overall recycling throughout the area.
